Disney+ has four Marvellive-action shows in the works:Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, andHawkeye. The Falcon/Winter Soldier show is the first on the docket, spinning off from the Captain America franchise.

Each of these shows is a big-budget miniseries, running from six to eight episodes. Here’s everything we know aboutFalcon and the Winter Soldier, from casting updates to news about the show’s overall concept.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier cast

This kind of goes without saying, but Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will star in the title roles. They’re both partway through multi-film contracts (in Sebastian Stan’s case, five films into a nine-film deal), so they may also appear among the ensemble cast of future MCU movies. However, this TV series is the vehicle for their solo stories. In Sam Wilson’s case, it’s the first time we’ve really seen him take center stage.

No other casting announcements have been made, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see someone like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) or Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) in a guest role.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier creative team

Malcolm Spellman will serve as the show’s lead writer. He’s known as one of the key writers and producers behind the TV seriesEmpire, and he’s developing the controversial HBO seriesConfederate withGame of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier plot

This section includes spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel hasn’t revealed whenFalcon and the Winter Soldiertakes place, but the most plausible choice is afterAvengers: Endgame. There’s no indication that these two characters spent much time together beforeInfinity War, whereas Endgame pairs them together during the film’s final scenes. Steve Rogers also passes his Captain America shield on to Sam Wilson, echoing the comics and suggesting that Sam may take on Cap’s role in the TV series.

Avengers: Infinity War/Marvel

While we don’t know the show’s exact setting, we do know that it will have closer ties to the movies than previous MCU shows on ABC and Netflix. Each of the upcoming Disney+ shows stars prominent characters from the movies and are being released directly by Disney/Marvel.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier release date

Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the first of Marvel’s Disney+ miniseries, expected to arrive in late 2019 or (more likely) early 2020.
